Rose quartz rates a 7 on the Moh’s scale of hardness. Typically rose quartz forms within igneous rocks, pegmatites, and hydrothermal veins. Over vast geological timescales, the cooling and crystallization of these materials allow rose quartz to develop. Eventually, these rocks erode. When that happens, rose quartz can be found in alluvial deposits, often in riverbeds or areas where water has carried the minerals. This crystal is found all over the world. Some of the more recent offerings of rose quartz have come from Madacascar, with many specimens having a more deep pink or pink/lavender color.
